August the 23rd 2014 was the official opening of the GWR. I did ask Robert Symes to open the railway as I spoke to him on the telephone in March 2014. Unfortunately he couldn't attend as he was moving house to Wales and would be extremely busy. We had a wonderful chat about our railway and about his own magnificent railway 'Greendene'. Despite Bob's absence and torrential rain, the afternoon tea we held for Macmillan nurses was a huge success! Family and friends rallied round and we raised over £55 on the day with many more pledges following. A return ticket cost £7.50 whiich my daughter had great fun issuing. My son was the station master ensuring that the trains ran to time and there were no incidents. All the 'passengers' enjoyed my wife's wonderful cucumber, ham, cheese and egg sandwiches not to mention her delicious home made cakes and scones. Tea and coffee flowed freely and everyone was in high spirits
